The Fool Card
The Fool
Keywords:
Upright: new beginnings, new adventure, idealism, innocence
Reverse: Recklessness, foolishness
The Fool is the first card of the Major Arcana and is often depicted as a young man, or woman, who is getting ready to set out on a new journey with infinite potential for adventure and growth. The Fool typically caries only a small sack and isn’t too attentive about the dangers in his path.
The Fool Upright
When seen upright, the Fool represents a new journey- one that will be fun and exciting. This might mean a career change, moving to a new place, or even beginning a new relationship. The Fool reminds you to face new things with courage, awe, and curiosity.
The Fool Reversed
When the Fool appears in reverse, it is often to caution you to go into new adventures with care. This doesn’t mean that you should skip the opportunity offered, however. Instead, seeing the Fool draws on the irresponsible and overly naïve qualities of the card to remind you to be more cautious and think of the future as well as the present.
The Fool in Love
Upright: When the Fool shows up in a love reading, it means that you’re about to start a new adventure; either a new adventure in your existing relationship or the start of something new. It also means that you must be willing to take risks in order to find the love you want and that there may be fun surprises in store for your love life.
Reversed: When the Fool appears reversed it means that you may need to take a bit of extra caution when it comes to love- especially with new relationships. New relationships can be a whirlwind of excitement and passion, but if you’re looking at everything through the lens of pure optimism, you might miss the flaws. The appearance of the Fool in reverse may also mean that you are not quite ready to handle a serious relationship.
The Fool in Career
Upright: Seeing the Fool in a career reading means that you may have new opportunities and beginnings headed your way. If you’re looking to change careers or start your own business, the fool is encouraging you to embark on this journey. The card can also represent a sense of renewed appreciation for your current work and increased awareness of potential new opportunities.
Reversed: The Fool in reverse might signal boredom with your current job. However, while you may feel like you have plenty of eagerness to change, the Fool warns you to approach that change with caution; make sure you’re thinking everything through and are aware of all potential factors and implications.
The Fool in Finances
Upright: The Fool in a financial reading encourages you to get adventurous with your spending. If you want to take that class, or plan that trip, the Fool is encouraging you to go for it.
Reversed: The Fool in reverse in a financial reading warns you about being too reckless with your money. Avoid impulsive financial decisions or spending more than you can afford.
