Minor Arcana Tarot Cards

The 56 everyday cards of the tarot, from the Ace to the King of each suit.

What the Minor Arcana mean

The Minor Arcana are the 56 cards that describe the daily texture of life: a conversation, a deadline, a quarrel, a payment, a good week. They are split into four suits of 14 cards, and each suit covers one area of experience.

Within a suit, the cards from Ace to Ten read as the stages of a situation. The Ace is the seed, the middle cards are the struggle and the work, and the Ten is the point where the cycle completes, for better or worse. The four court cards (Page, Knight, Queen and King) usually stand for people, or for an approach you are taking.

The four suits

  • Wands (fire): energy, ambition, work and creative drive.
  • Cups (water): feelings, love, relationships and intuition.
  • Swords (air): thoughts, truth, communication and conflict.
  • Pentacles (earth): money, work, health and home.

A reading with many cards from one suit tells you which area of life the question lives in. Many Cups point to the heart, many Swords to the mind, and so on.
